Spiritual activities
Spirituality is the science that teaches us how to live happily in the world. Spiritual practices help us to live a harmonious life, access inner reserves of peace, wisdom and compassion and deepen our connection with ourselves, others and the world around us.
With the pace and demands of modern life, it can be difficult to make time for spiritual practices. However, doing even one practice on a regular basis can be immensely rewarding. We offer activities at MA Centre in Bromley and in our regional groups throughout the year,.
Spiritual Practices (Sadhana) Day
Join us each month for a fulfilling day of meditation, selfless service (seva), chanting, devotional singing (bhajan) practice and spiritual gathering (satsang). All practices are optional and delicious refreshments are always provided.
Ceremonial Blessings
We offer traditional Hindu blessings (Samskaras) for people of all backgrounds and faiths who wish to mark important moments in life.
Rooted in ancient Indian spiritual tradition, Samskaras are sacred rituals that offer blessings for health, protection, wisdom and happiness. Including prayers and symbolic rituals, everyone present will understand and take part. Available in person or online by donation.
• Baby Naming (Naamakaran)
• Baby’s First Rice or Solid Food (Annapraasan)
• Child’s Formal Introduction to Learning (Vidyaarambham)
• Vehicle Inauguration (Vaahana Puja)
Devotional singing (Bhajans)
Bhajans are poetic compositions sung in groups, prayers in a musical form. Their content can be devotional, while others address universal human values.
Singing together creates a joyful, meditative atmosphere and helps focus the mind on the Divine. No prior experience is needed–just bring your voice and an open heart.
Join us at MA Centre for a relaxed Saturday practice where you can build your confidence and feel the power of collective singing in Amma’s unique style.
Festivals
We celebrate major Hindu festivals throughout the year, including Diwali (Festival of Lights), Mahashivaratri (The Great Night of Shiva), Guru Purnima (Guru Worship at the summer full moon) and Krishna Jayanti (Krishna’s birthday). Our festivals are always open to all, regardless of religious belief. We also host gatherings for Christmas and other celebrations, aiming to provide a friendly, welcoming space for everyone.
Pujas and Homas
Pujas (Divine worship with flowers, incense, water and food), and Homas (elaborate fire ceremonies) are powerful and meditative rituals. Come and experience the powerful spiritual vibrations and positive energy. generated by the sacred mantras and hand gestures (mudras) of India’s ancient scriptures which are carried out exactly as they are in Amritapuri. Amma has authorised women to perform these rituals, traditionally reserved for men.
Children's programmes
Amrita Bala Kendra, inspired by Amma’s teachings, nurtures spiritual values, cultural awareness and scriptural knowledge in children.
Held biweekly via Zoom for ages four and above, the classes provide practical tools through stories, games, music and activities, making learning engaging and meaningful.
Along with the understanding of the outer world, it is essential that we also get to know the inner world.
